John Cann will be presenting this talk at the Tuggerah Library, covering methods for finding children placed in State care in the nineteenth and early 20th century.

Saturday 16 April: Pandora's Box: lifting the lid on the weird and wonderful in the State's archives Apr 16, 2016 from 09:30 AM to 04:00 PM Kiama Pavilion 2 Bong Bong Street Kiama,
Gail Davis is presenting this session at the Family, Local and Social History Expo at Kiama. Hear about some of the curiosities in the collection including as the model for the 19th century Torpedo Antidote and Wave Breaker, the 1887 key to Rookwood Asylum and a 1918 silver mesh evening bag . Other objects include watercolour paintings on silkscreens showing artist’s impressions of the designs for Leeton and Griffith, beautiful illuminated addresses, travel brochures, motion pictures, furniture and photographs, lantern slides and fabric samples. Gail will also be hosting an exhibitors table at the Expo.

Presented as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival, this is a behind the scenes tour of the State Records complex. Join us to discover how over 76 kilometres of State Archives are stored and cared for. Come and explore this fascinating collection. The tour will include a visit to the Conservation Laboratory to see conservators at work preserving historic documents. There will also be an opportunity to look at some treasures from the collection on display. Be prepared for a long walk and wear your walking shoes. Rediscover your love of history on the discovery tour.
