The State Records Act 1998 came into operation for NSW Universities on 1 January 1999.
State Records offers a range of short course training in records management. Courses are held at the Sydney Records Centre in the Rocks or the Western Sydney Records Centre at Kingswood. See our current training calender.
Under the terms of Part 2 of the State Records Act ('Records management responsibilities of public offices'), Universities in NSW are required to meet standards for records management that are issued by State Records. See more information about compliance with the Act.
General Retention and Disposal Authority - University Records (GDA 23) was issued in December 2005. The GDA covers the functional records of universities relating to governance and general administration, student administration and services, and teaching and research. GDA 23 should be used in conjunction with the other general retention and disposal authorities.
This authority replaces General Disposal Authority - University Records (GDA 9) which should no longer be used for the disposal of university records.
The following documents have been developed to assist the implementation of GDA 23 and the re-sentencing of records previously sentenced under GDA 9:
Mapping of disposal classes in GDA 9 to disposal classes in GDA 23 (Word doc, 242kb)
List of new functions, activities and disposal classes in GDA 23, (Word doc, 78kb)
