De Dramatising Disasters

This two day workshop introduces methods to prevent disasters and respond quickly and efficiently to disasters that occur. The course will help NSW public offices understand the compliance requirements of the Standard on Counter Disaster Strategies for Records and Recordkeeping Systems.

This course is jointly offered by the State Library of NSW and State Records NSW.

The need to plan and protect information resources, records and recordkeeping systems from the risk of a disaster and to ensure the continuation of business in the event of a disaster has become critical in recent years.

This two day workshop will introduce methods to prevent disasters altogether and respond quickly and efficiently to disasters that do occur in order to recover and protect important organisational assets. It includes an opportunity to take part in a simulated disaster recovery. The course will help NSW public offices meet the compliance requirements of the Standard on counter disaster strategies for records and recordkeeping systems.

Learner profile

This course is suitable for people responsible for organisational disaster response in the NSW public sector; recovery teams or people developing risk assessments and/or counter disaster plans for records.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • implement preventative procedures including managing risk assessments and identifying vital records
  • compile a counter disaster plan and kit for managing disasters
  • supervise a disaster response and recovery team
  • react to disasters efficiently and effectively, and
  • manage the recovery and restoration of information resources.
