This course examines the Standard on managing a records management program, a mandatory standard for public offices subject to the Act, and explores ways of implementing a records management program in the modern organisational environment.

Learner profile

Designed for corporate records managers and other people responsible for implementing and/or managing an organisation's records management program in compliance with the State Records Act 1998.

Prerequisites

Participants should be familiar with records management work and have read the Standard on managing a records management program.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course participants should:

  • understand what is meant by a records management program in Part 2 of the State Records Act 1998
  • identify the major elements of a program and why it is important to have one
  • plan for and implement a records management program to achieve corporate objectives and compliance, and
  • identify ways to improve your records management program.

Course content

This course consists of sessions on:

  • What is a records management program?
  • Developing and implementing policies and plans
  • Implementing your records management program
  • Staffing your records management program
  • Improving your records management program

Participants will also work on group activities based on 'real life' scenarios:

  • Raising the profile of records management
  • Organisational change
  • Reporting
