This course aims to provide participants with an understanding of the practices and processes involved in the transfer of State records required as State archives under Part 4 of the State Records Act 1998. This is a practical course that will teach the documentation, packaging and boxing skills required when preparing records for transfer.

This course is suitable for people who are involved in disposal programs and the transfer of State archives or who manage archival programs in their public office.
Course outcomes
By the end of the course participants will:
- be familiar with Part 4 of the State Records Act
- know how to comply with the Procedures for transferring custody of records as State archives
- have experience in preparing transfer documentation
- have experience in boxing and packaging items for transfer to State records, and
- know how to identify physical issues with records proposed for transfer (eg mould, vermin/insect infestation, poor condition).

Introduction to Part 4 of the State Records Act 1998
- The rights and obligations part 4 confers on public offices
Procedures for transferring custody of records as State archives
- How to comply with the Procedures for transferring custody of records as State archives
- How to propose records for transfer
- How to prepare transfer documentation
Physical preparation of records
- How to package and box records for transfer
- How to identify physical problems with records (mould, vermin/insects, poor condition)
