Sydney cricket and sports grounds
In 1851, land where the Sydney Cricket Ground is now located, was set aside for the use of the military to use as a cricket ground and garden. During the Cricket Season in 1874, it was used by the NSW Artillery, Her Majesty's Navy and the East Sydney Cricket Club. Three Trustees were appointed to administer the land in 1876 and on 31 July 1877 a Government Gazette notification stated that the ground was to be used for the purposes of public recreation.
