Land grants and leases

These are records of the earliest grants in the Colony, detailing quantity and location.
The registers from 1792 to 1843 usually include the following information in respect of each grant: the number of the grant (within each volume), the name of the grantee, the number of acres, whether a grant or lease, the name of the district in which the land was situated, the name of the Governor by whom the land was granted, the date when the grant was made, and the names of the witnesses to the execution of the deed and 'Remarks (usually special conditions as to cultivation and reservation of roads, timber, etc.).

Depasturing licences permitted settlers to graze stock on Crown Lands 'beyond the limits of location'.
The registers comprise certificates, each of which shows a registered number, date, name and residence of licensee, situation (whether north, west, south, etc.), district, period of licence and amount of fee.
