Chemists, Druggists and Pharmacists
This index was a volunteer project that was compiled from the following records:
NRS 10897, Registers of Chemists and Druggists of New South Wales under the Sale and Use of Poisons Act 1876, 1876-1895
The volumes are arranged alphabetically by the names of chemists. Each entry gives: name, residence, qualifications and remarks. There are many strike-outs and annotations recording amended information, deaths etc. The Register was kept under section 13 of the Sale and Use of Poisons Act 1876 (40 Vic. Act No.9) which received assent on 21 August 1876. The Register was to be published annually in January in the New South Wales Government Gazette.
[2/695-96 SR Reel 3855] 2 vols.
NRS 10898, Register of Pharmacists and Druggists, and Pharmacists licensed to sell poisons under the Sales and Use of Poisons Act 1897, and the Poisons Act 1902, 1876-1920

Details of chemists registered under the previous Act have also been written in. Entries in the register are arranged alphabetically by surname; and from c.1897 within each letter by the date of registration. Each entry records the number of the certificate, date of registration, name, residence and qualifications. Where appropriate a change of address and deceased are noted. [2/693; SR Reel 3855] 1 vol.
The registers are available to view in the reading room at the Western Sydney Records Centre.
