Series Detail The series consists of Geological Survey Reports (GS) which are primarily departmental and company reports outlining exploration activities conducted throughout New South Wales. This series is part of the Geological Survey collection, a unique collection of unpublished reports on the results of exploration submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources by companies and individuals as a consequence of exploration and mining licences being granted. The file in the GS series contain reports, maps, plans, logs, and photos related to survey and exploration projects. The Department, companies and consultants directly involved in mining and exploration work, mainly use the reports. There is also some use by other government departments and academics. The Geological Survey collection dating back to 1870 contained over 30,000 reports by the late 1990's and included the following series: (A) GS Reports (GS) (B) Mine Records (MR) (C) Annual Report Compilations (ARC) (D) Coal Reports (CR) (E) Seismic Reports (SS) (F) Well Completion Reports (WCR) (G) Aeromagnetic Reports (AMO) (H) Gravity Reports (GR) (I) Petroleum Geological Reports (PGR). Duration of CPA direction Until the authority has expiredThe Department determines when an authority has expired. Electronic access to the series can be gained through the Minerals and Petroleum website under the Division of Resources and Energy of the Department of Trade & Investment or by visiting the Department's Head Office in Sydney or one of the regional centres at Armidale, Orange, Singleton, or Broken Hill. Electronic access to the Geological Survey collection application can be gained through the Department's site by accessing the MinView application which allows users to display and query Geological and Exploration Titles information. MinView also provides links to the Digital Imaging of Geological System (DIGS) that enables users to display the GS exploration reports associated with drillholes, mineral deposits, and exploration titles information.
