Overland military convoy, NT, 1941

At the first meeting between the Army and the state road construction authorities, held in Melbourne on 30 July 1940, the Army said they needed a north-south road that could carry 600 vehicles per week. By November 1942, 2000 vehicles were travelling through Adelaide River every day. NRS 20012 [6/17260] p.27, photo 3, Photographer Mr Endean.
