8 Apr 1882 - Ag Society's first show at Moore Park

#OnThisDay 8 April 1882 the Agricultural Society of NSW's first show at Moore Park opened. It ran for eight days, ending on 15 April.

The Agricultural Society (later the Royal Agricultural Society or RAS) was founded at a public meeting in the Red Cow Inn at Parramatta on 5 July 1822. The Society aimed to encourage profitable cultivation techniques and livestock production and its inaugral show was held in Parramatta the following year.

The Society disbanded in 1836 and in 1857 the Cumberland Agricultural Society was founded.
