We are currently undertaking a large digitisation project of at-risk material from the State Archives Collection. Over the next 12 months, we will be digitising photographic and audio-visual material as well as selected paper-based material. All of this material is either at risk due to physical deterioration or format obsolescence.
Included in the project is a collection of glass plates depicting life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that will be made available online for the first time; Insolvency Files from before 1890 from across the colony; and the School Administration Files that you voted for in March.
We will also be digitising thousands of photographic negatives including education teaching slides, and images previously held by the State Rail Archive. By June 2022, significant proportions of our photographic negative holdings and our Australian audio-visual content will be digitised, preserving and safeguarding these collections for future generations.
