#OnThisDay 25 July 1839 Henry Parkes arrived in Sydney on the Strathfieldsaye. The entry in the shipping list shows that he was 24 years old and a turner. His wife, Clarinda was 23 and a dressmaker.
Parkes made his famous speech, the 'Tenterfield Oration', in favour of Federation in October 1889.
