3 May 1841 - New Zealand separated from NSW

#OnThisDay 3 May 1841 New Zealand was proclaimed a separate Crown colony from New South Wales. Captain William Hobson declared British sovereignty over all of New Zealand on 21 May 1840 and it was treated as part of the Colony of NSW for nearly a year.
