9 Jan 1868 - convict transportation to Australia ceased

#OnThisDay 9 January 1868 convict transportation to Australia ceased when the Hougoumont arrived in Western Australia.  It is estimated that about 165,000 convicts were sent to Australia over an eighty year period.
