Road closure O’Connell Street from Friday 9 November 2018

O'Connell Street has re-opened to traffic

We've been advised bus routes will re-commence along O'Connell Street from Monday 27 May. Please check the Busways website for further details.

Bus services

There is currently no bus service that travels along O’Connell Street. All bus travel involves a 15-20 minute walk from the closest stop which is in Claremont Meadows, near the shopping centre between Mundowie Place and San Diego Street.

The relevant bus route is the 774.

Please note: if you are used to taking the 775 or 776 and walking across Western Sydney University there is absolutely no access to walk across O'Connell Street due to the roadworks.

Getting to Kingswood by bus (includes approximate walking time of 15 minutes)

OPTION 1:

  • Take the 774 from St Marys Station or Penrith Station and get off at Myrtle Road, Claremont Meadows, between Mundowie Place and San Diego Street.
  • Walk straight ahead along Myrtle Rd until you see the small park and children’s playground on the right (about 1 minute’s walk). Take the path or the road on the right, and walk through to Nullaga Way. The Myrtle Road sports fields should be on your left as you walk through.
  • Follow Nullaga Way to the end and then turn left onto Sunflower Drive.
  • At the roundabout, turn right into O’Connell Street and walk up the road to NSW State Archives. If stopped by Traffic Control staff, let them know you are going to State Archives.
  • Our security guards will then direct you to the reading room.

OPTION 2:

  • Take the 774 from St Marys Station or Penrith Station and get off at Myrtle Road, Claremont Meadows, just before Sunflower Drive (opposite Claremont Meadows shopping centre).
  • Turn right onto Sunflower Drive and follow it past the school
  • Turn left at the roundabout at O’Connell St and walk up the road to NSW State Archives. If stopped by Traffic Control staff, let them know you are going to State Archives.
  • Our security guards will then direct you to the reading room.

Accessibility note: the routes above follow concrete paths and fully sealed roads, however you will have to traverse a temporary footpath on O’Connell St as you approach our front gate.

Walking route (OPTION 1)

We advise you to check for the most up to date information on the Busways website and the Transport Infoline website.

We understand that the road will be closed for 20 weeks, weather permitting.
