This option continues to be the most common approach for paper records, and may be suitable for certain types of electronic State archives. State Records has issued guidelines on transfer (Section 29 Guidelines) and public offices are required to comply with these requirements.

Transferring digital records
Digital records, like paper or other formats, are also eligible to become part of the State archives. Under the guidelines on transfer (Section 29 Guidelines), public offices are required to follow the step by step approach to their migration into the Digital State Archive that is outlined in the Digital Archives Migration Methodology.
