Cobbora Holding Company (CHC) was established in January 2011 to develop the Cobbora Coal Project. The Cobbora Coal Project is a new open cut coal mine which will supply coal to three operators of coal-fired power stations in NSW: Macquarie Generation, Origin Energy and Delta Electricity. This will ensure a stable coal sale price (below market rate) and consistent electricity supply to customers.
CHC was initially supported by Macquarie Generation with seconded employees and IT hardware and software, including an electronic document and records management system (Documentum).
The IT support provided by Macquarie Generation expired on 30 September 2012. In order to be compliant with the State Records Act 1998, CHC needed to implement its own digital recordkeeping system to suit the needs of a much smaller workforce where employees work primarily with digital records.
Deciding to implement SharePoint 2010
CHC chose to implement SharePoint 2010 + RecordPoint as its digital recordkeeping system. This decision was based on a number of considerations:
- SharePoint + RecordPoint provides a ‘one stop shop’ solution in which records are created, saved and managed.
- This removes the need for an end user to make a conscious decision to capture records into a separate recordkeeping system.
- It also eliminates the risk that employees will fail to capture records into a separate recordkeeping system because they ‘don’t have time’.
- SharePoint + RecordPoint can be implemented so that the risk of employees inadvertently deleting records is reduced.
Cobbora advised in 2016 that by the time the pilot was completed the NSW Government had decided not to go ahead with the mining project and the contract with the oursourced service provider was terminated.
