The Australian Standard on records management, AS ISO 15489.1: 2002 Records Management – Part 1: General, and AS ISO 15489.2: 2002 Records Management – Part 2: Guidelines is currently issued as a code of best practice under section 13 of the State Records Act 1998.
In May 2017 Standards Australia published a new Australian Standard on records management and revoked the 2002 standard. The new Australian Standard on records management is
AS ISO 15489.1: 2017 Information and documentation – Records management, Part 1: Concepts and principles.
This new standard is a concise, contemporary representation of recordkeeping practice, with an emphasis on the digital environment. It represents national best practice and is the Australian codification of the new international standard on records management, ISO 15489.1, approved in 2016.
NSW State Archives and Records proposes that this new Australian Standard AS ISO 15489.1: 2017 be approved under section 13 of the State Records Act 1998 as a code of best practice for records management for NSW public offices and consulted with NSW public offices.
See the recent presentation at the Records Managers' Forum on the proposed new code of best practice.
The consultation period has closed. Any questions regarding the proposed Code of Best Practice may be directed to: Catherine Robinson, Senior Project Officer, Government Recordkeeping, Tel: 02 8257 2991 | Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
