Annie's trial in 1899 - Jane Ann Benson's court evidence

The year 1899 was not good for Annie Turnbull. On 6 April 1899 Annie had been found guilty of abortion charges by the Maitland Circuit Court (no papers have survived) and was serving a seven year sentence in Maitland Gaol. In June she was transferred to Darlinghurst Gaol to stand trial in Sydney on the same charge in a separate case. She was found guilty, again, and sentenced to another seven years, to be served concurrently with the first sentence. For more background on this case see the Jane Ann Benson Gallery page. In this evidene, Jane is describing arriving at Newcastle and making contact with Annie Turnbull on Newcomen Street. From NRS 880 [9/6975] Case #8
