State Records' Short Guides are designed to provide easy reference to record series relating to a particular subject or area of research. This guide provides a list of records concerning Births, Deaths and Marriages held by State Records. It was previously published as Information Leaflet 4. It has since been edited and updated with the, NRS number. This new means of identifying records is based on the Australian archival standard 'series system'. The number will in due course be migrated to the State Records Control System.
This will mean that published citations of State archives will remain valid after the relevant archives have been converted to the new system of control. In time, these series numbers will replace the old 'stroke' reference numbers used in previous publications.
The records concerning Births, Deaths and Marriages also include related records such as baptisms, convicts' applications to marry, coroners' inquests and probate.
