The photograph shows the 1st Railway Imperial Expeditionary Force at the Sydney Showground prior to departure for France.
The index was compiled from the series:
NRS 15905, Nominal Roll of the First Railway Section, Australian Imperial Expeditionary Forces (AIF)
The volume provides details of railway employees who formed the 1st Railway Section of the AIF. Details recorded include name, rank, age, marital status, trade or calling, address at date of enrolment, next of kin and address, religion, date of joining, unit for those already serving in the military, per-diem paid before and after embarkation, daily rate of deferred pay, name and address of allottee and remarks.
The records are available to view in the reading room on microfilm reel 3050.
There is a photocopy service available from this Index. You will see an 'Add to Cart' tickbox option on the search results page(s).
The copies are A3 size and each entry is contained on one line (as in a register). Where more than one name appears in the index with the same page number you need only order one entry as the other names will also appear on this copy.
Special Offer! As part of your order, for an additional fee, we will also check the NRS 12922, Railway Personal History Cards (which covers employees born before 1900 and who were in employment from 1910 onwards) to see if there is a record for the person(s) you have located in the Nominal Roll.
This is a non-refundable cost whether or not we find a Railway Card. Where a card(s) is located we will copy and include it with the rest of your order.
If you do not find an entry in the Nominal Roll, you can still take advantage of the Railway History Card Copy Service.
We would appreciate any feedback and suggestions you may have on using the Index.
